Salt Lake in 2027: what is scheduled

A headquarters, a convention center that closes, an arena aimed at the next season, and several things that are not 2027.

Local updates

People ask what is coming to Salt Lake in 2027 as if the city were opening a stack of attractions on New Year’s Day. The public record is narrower, and more useful. This is that record, as published by the projects and by Deseret News and KSL in 2026. It is not a forecast from this site, and it is not a reason to buy anything.

A headquarters with a year on it

The Power District, at North Temple and Redwood Road, says on its own site that the new ten-story Rocky Mountain Power headquarters is under construction and planned to open in 2027. The architects named there are Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The same page publishes a much larger plan: residences, a hotel, retail, office, a riverwalk, and a hope for Major League Baseball. Those are not given a 2027 opening. Baseball is described as a candidacy, not a team. A master plan is not a delivery schedule.

The Salt Palace stays open through summer, then closes

Deseret News and KSL reported on June 3, 2026, that Salt Lake County plans to close the Salt Palace Convention Center fully beginning in fall 2027, for about three years, while it is rebuilt beside the downtown sports and entertainment district. Arlyn Bradshaw, the county’s associate deputy mayor, told them the building is slated to host events through the summer of 2027, and that an earlier hope of staying partly open did not survive the design. Abravanel Hall, he said, is still to be mostly preserved. Jacobsen Construction and AECOM Hunt were hired in April 2026. Some events may move to the Mountain America Exposition Center in Sandy. If your 2027 reason for being downtown is a convention, ask the organizer where it actually is.

The arena is the piece aimed at the 2027–28 seasons

The same June report says the Delta Center renovation is scheduled to be finished in time for the Jazz and Mammoth 2027–28 seasons, and that construction then shifts toward the Salt Palace and the blocks east of the arena. A May 28, 2026, Deseret News account says demolition in that district was not expected to start until Smith Entertainment Group takes possession of the western wing of the Salt Palace in February 2027. The downtown makeover, that story says, is not expected to be complete until just before the 2034 Olympic Winter Games. So 2027 is a handover year. It is not a ribbon-cutting for the whole district.

What is not a 2027 opening

  • The rest of the Power District beyond the Rocky Mountain Power building.
  • A major-league ballpark. The district says it is a candidate site. That is the sentence.
  • The Point in Draper. The project’s site has described its entertainment venue as a first-quarter 2028 delivery.
  • The airport’s last gates. Salt Lake City International says the final seven gates on Concourse B, the end of the current rebuild, open October 27, 2026. That is this fall, not next year.
  • Anything that exists only in a rendering.

Park City people use Salt Lake as a city: a flight, a game, a dinner, an appointment. The practical 2027 version is an arena coming back into a full season, a convention center going quiet for a while, and a new headquarters on the west side. The Games on the horizon are 2034. We do not have a listing to attach to any of this, and we are not going to invent one.
